Ingredients

  • 1 English muffin
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 slice of Canadian bacon
  • 1 slice of American cheese or substitute with cheddar

Instructions

  • Begin by toasting the English muffin to your desired crispness.
  • Warm the Canadian bacon in a small pan over high heat until it achieves browned marks, approximately 45 seconds per side. No need to add anything to the pan.
  • Spray a ramekin with cooking spray, crack the egg into it, and season with salt and pepper. Whisk the egg with a fork, then microwave on high for 40-50 seconds. Check at 40 seconds for doneness, adding more time in 5-second increments if necessary. (45 seconds is often just right.)
  • Once cooked, top the egg with cheese to let it melt.
  • Assemble your sandwich by placing the Canadian bacon on the bottom half of the English muffin, followed by the cheese-topped egg. Cap it with the top half of the muffin, and your Egg McMuffin is ready to enjoy!

Notes

Notes and Variations:
  • For a veggie twist, add spinach to the egg before microwaving.
  • Substitute the Canadian bacon with ham, turkey, chicken, or bacon. For a vegetarian option, omit the meat.
  • Experiment with different cheeses such as mozzarella, Monterey Jack, goat cheese, or feta.
  • Garnish the cooked egg with chopped tomatoes and basil, and use mozzarella for a Caprese-style McMuffin.
  • Make-Ahead: Cool the sandwich, then wrap in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and refrigerate for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave when ready to eat.
  • Freezer Friendly: Cool the assembled sandwich, wrap in foil, and place in a freezer-safe bag. Label, date, and freeze for up to 4-5 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.
